Google Maps Game Comes to Google+

The search giant has released an undisclosed promotional video for a Google Maps-driven game for Google+ Games. The slogan of the video set by the search giant is “Play your world, like never before.” There is also a link shown reading “Start here,” which leads to entertaining demos on how to use Google Maps.

The game is supposed to release next month and seems very similar to the ones including On the Ball, Marble Madness and Rolling Madness 3D. In all these games, the player has to navigate a ball through different courses. The teaser video also reveals that players will possibly earn points for rolling over Zagat-rated venues. The local reviews giant Zagat was acquired by the search giant in September 2011.

Also, the Maps team created the game for the Google+ Games platform that was released in August 2011. Technically, the game runs on WebGL, a technology used to create 3D web graphics that viewers can see without a need to install any additional software.

On the occasion of Zagat’s acquisition in September 2011, Marissa Mayer of Google said, “Moving forward, Zagat will be a cornerstone of our local offering — delighting people with their impressive array of reviews, ratings and insights, while enabling people everywhere to find extraordinary (and ordinary) experiences around the corner and around the world.”

This is a good tactic from the search giant to uplift the Zagat Ratings further to highlight it through gamification.
