Twitter Adds 11 New Accounts Every Second

Twitter is swiftly approaching its next 500 millionth account milestone, reports The Wall. A third party Twitter app Twopcharts conducted a study that reveals that Twitter will soon hit the milestone  by the month of February, as late as by 25th.

Twopchart reveals that there are 465 million Twitter accounts at the moment, which means that the social network saw a growth of 65% since May, when its account estimate was 300 million.

According to latest figures and countdown chart, Twitter is currently growing at a rate of almost 11 accounts per second.

According to report, with such a growing rate Twitter will hit the landmark of 500 million accounts in late February.

However, there are certain other things that we need to keep in mind while looking at the swift growing rate of Twitter. Facebook is reportedly approaching quickly to its 1 billion users mark, whereas China-based Twitter clones, including Sina Weibo and Tencent Weibo exceeded 550 million users in November 2011 on a combined scale.

As for Twitter, it is important to note that how many accounts are in fact active and are not just spammers. This is a major issue which is affecting a good number of users on daily basis. It was back in September when Twitter revealed that the number of active Twitter users per month were at 100 million, where Twitter.com hitting over 400 million monthly unique visitors.

CEO of Twitter Dick Costolo stated back in October that with launch of iOS integration, Twitter’s signups tripled. This means that Apple has had its role to get microblogging network to reach the 500 million mark.
