UK Visits to YouTube up 45%

Hitwise conducted a study according to which UK alone made up for 606 million Internet visits to largest online video sharing community YouTube.

According to study, the video sharing communities, such as YouTube and BBC iPlayer received 936 million visits in month of December. The figures are still counting gradually and if we talk about the month of October, it saw a 36% rise in visits to video sharing sites.

If we see at individual results, YouTube is clearly leading them all. Hitwise said that the site is one of the fastest growing video sharing communities and accounted for 65% of visits in United Kingdom last month. Basically, YouTube currently makes up for 25% of social network visits overall in the UK. These numbers are 800 times higher than global numbers. It seems that UK appears to be far more interested in social video than rest of the world. The global figures just stand at 0.03% of all social video sites.

After Facebook, YouTube has become the second to take the massive share of the market with just 50%. With 2.98% visits in December, Twitter is on the third spot.

If we compare the current figures of YouTube’s UK growth with the last year’s results, you will see a growth of 45% over the last year. Last year at the same time, YouTube saw 417 million visits in the United Kingdom. On the global basis, the growth of the site has increased by 18%.

As for Google’s market share in the online search, has hit 92%. Since the June of last year, including the Christmas season, it has been seen that retailers received 43% of the visits through search engine.
