Opera Mini to Arrive on Samsung’s Featurephones

Opera has announced that the company has partnered with South Korean electronics giant Samsung. Under this partnership, a number of Samsung’s feature phones will come pre-equipped with the Opera Mini browser. This will certainly increase the market share of Opera Mini browser.

According to the reports, the Opera Mini will come preloaded on Star3, Star 3 Duos, Champ Deluxe and Champ Deluxe Duos range. However, there are chances that more devices will receive Opera Mini browser in the coming time. The addition of Opera Mini will give users a faster browsing experience, with its server side webpage compression technology.

With having this slimline browser preloaded on your device, you will experience a cut down page-load time to a tenth of their actual size, consuming 90% less data in the process. This is why it is perfect tool to have in featurephone, particularly for users on lower value mobile tariffs or in countries where data access is at a premium. Furthermore, the browser offers tab support, a password manager, Opera Link (to connect accounts) and Speed Dial.

Opera Software also inked a deal with Taiwanese semi-conductor maker MediaTek, back in December. Under this deal, MediaTek’s Runtime Environment (MRE) platform packaged with Opera Mini.

One of the leading chipset manufacturers servicing in regions like Asia-Pacific, MediaTek accounts for over 40% of all phones in the Indian mobile market running on its chips. On the other hand, MRE platform is a layer that enables third-party software companies to develop integrated applications for MediaTek’s inexpensive smart featurephones.

Opera-Samsung deal seems to set another landmark to further solidify the browser position as the most famous mobile browser across the world. Opera Mini is already on the rise, with 160 million monthly unique users.
