Apple Announces New Catalogs Category for App Store

The Cupertino-based technology giant Apple has launched a new category labeled ‘Catalogs’ for its App Store. The new announcement was appeared just ahead of the media event, where the technology is expected to reveal next-generation tablet and Apple TV.

The new category has not yet completely rolled out to App Store. The roll out will take some time to complete. The new category currently includes apps, such as Catalog Spree, MTG Merchant, and SkyMall. However, when you will try to view the category page, it won’t display any results. It is believed that in the media event the catalogs hardly have any role to play.

However, MacRumors’ report tells another story. According to MacRumors, the CEO of Catalog Spree says that the announcement seems to be connected to media event:

Adding an app category is not something that Apple does lightly and we believe Apple’s decision reflects the importance of this use-case in the Apple App Store ecosystem.

This is not yet clear whether what sort of role will the new Catalogs category play in the Apple’s March 7th media event. However, Apple will certainly have something interesting for us in the box. There is a thought that the new Catalogs category may have some link to Retina Display.

Besides rolling out the new category to the App Store, the Cupertino-based tech titan has also released an updated interface for the iPad version.

We will get back to you once the Apple’s media event commences within few hour’s time with the latest updates direct from the event. Stay tuned.
